Karnataka: A 48-hour ban on alcohol sales has been imposed in Karnataka. South Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan announced this on Monday (16th September). He stated that all types of alcohol sales have been banned within the limits of Bantwal Town Municipal Council in the South Kannada district.
According to news agency ANI, this decision was made after protests by Hindu organizations following a viral audio clip, which caused tension in the area. The ban is effective immediately and will remain in place for the next 48 hours to maintain law and order. With the ban in place, all liquor shops and bars within Bantwal Town Municipal Council will remain closed until further notice.
Alcohol Ban in Hyderabad Too
The Hyderabad City Police have also announced a temporary ban on alcohol sales to ensure public safety during the final phase of Ganesh idol immersion. According to Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, the ban will be in effect from 6 a.m. on 17th September to 6 p.m. on 18th September. This ban applies to all liquor shops, toddy shops, and bars in both Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The decision has been made under Section 20 of the Telangana Excise Act, 1968. However, bars in hotels and registered clubs are exempt from this ban.
