Ambedkar Jayanti in UP: Why Mayawati’s Name Was Mentioned Twice on Stage with CM Yogi

Published:

On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, a special event was organized by the Ambedkar Mahasabha in Uttar Pradesh. During this program, the name of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former UP Chief Minister Mayawati was mentioned twice for different reasons. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present on the stage at that time.

What Did Ambedkar Mahasabha President Say?

The president of Ambedkar Mahasabha, Lalji Prasad Nirmal, praised the UP government while referring to Mayawati. He claimed that UP is the first state in India where a government has ordered to place Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s portrait in every government office. He said this work was not done even during Mayawati’s government.

Lalji Prasad Nirmal said,
“I want to specially mention that CM Yogi Adityanath announced from this very stage that Dr. Ambedkar’s picture would be displayed in all government offices. This is the first government in the country to make such a decision. Even after many demands, Mayawati could not take this bold step. I thank CM Yogi Adityanath for this.”

He also mentioned that he is a member of the UP Legislative Council and has earlier served as the chairman of the Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation.

What Did UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak Say?

Later, UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak also mentioned Mayawati while targeting the Samajwadi Party (SP). He said that SP leaders pretend to support Dalits only for votes but their history shows otherwise.

He reminded people of the State Guest House incident, when Kanshi Ram had to hold a meeting inside the guest house during SP’s rule. He said,
“Our Dalit sister (Mayawati) was attacked. The goons of the Samajwadi Party tried to set her on fire using a gas cylinder on 2nd June. No one has forgotten that incident.”

Pathak further said,
“Today, the same people are pretending to care for Dalits just to get votes. I want to tell the Dalit community that only the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is sincerely working to give rights and respect to every Dalit.”

In this way, Mayawati’s name came up twice during the program — once to praise CM Yogi’s decision and another time to recall an old political incident.
