The Indian Army is renowned for its daring operations in challenging terrain. The Army has once again achieved a new feat high up in the snow-laden peaks of the Himalayas. Along the border shared with China, the Indian Army has set a record by successfully deploying a monorail at an altitude of 16,000 feet.
The Army’s Gajraj Corps (Headquarters Tezpur) has developed and installed this high-altitude monorail to transport logistics and supplies to border posts that are often engulfed in snow in Arunachal Pradesh. This monorail system can carry up to 300 kg of suppliesโand even transport injured soldiersโfrom one location to another.
Army Releases Monorail Videos
The Indian Army has released videos of this snow-operating monorail in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kameng district. The videos show soldiers using the monorail to safely evacuate an injured soldier from one post to another.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat, the regional spokesperson for the Indian Army, issued an official statement saying that extreme weather and accessibility issues made reaching high-altitude posts very difficult. He stated that this monorail could prove to be a milestone in high-altitude logistics.
Monorail’s Capabilities for the Army
Due to heavy snowfall, many Army posts remain cut off from the Field Formation Headquarters for several days. Reaching these locations was extremely difficult, often requiring arduous trekking or traditional transport methods like mules. The Army’s Gajraj Corps (4 Corps) took the initiative to build this monorail themselves.
According to the Army, this monorail can now easily transport essential items like rations, ammunition, fuel, engineering equipment, and other heavy supplies to the forward posts.
