Kolkata Rape Case: Tension Rises as Woman’s Body Found in Bushes, BJP Targets CM Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata Rape Murder Case: A shocking incident has emerged from Kolkata’s Anandapur area just as the city was already grappling with the outrage over the brutal assault of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, a woman’s dead body was discovered under suspicious circumstances.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the police found the woman’s body near some bushes in a deserted area on the southern outskirts of Anandapur. The body showed multiple injury marks. The police were alerted after locals found the body lying in the bushes early on Wednesday morning and informed the authorities.

What Did Kolkata Police Discover?
The police took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Locals claim that the deceased woman was not from the area and that her body may have been dumped there. The body had signs of injuries and bloodstains. Police sources said the woman’s identity is yet to be established, and the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report is released. The police have started investigating the case, and they are reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras.

Locals also complained that the area where the body was found lacks proper street lighting, making it a possible spot for suspicious activities. This is not the first such incident in the city; earlier this month, a junior female doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, sparking protests across the country.

BJP Criticizes CM Mamata Banerjee
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the incident. Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, stated, “We demand the resignation of Mamata Banerjee. She should step down from her position as she has lost credibility.”
