The Bihar Assembly Budget Session 2025 witnessed a major uproar on Wednesday (March 26) as opposition leaders protested against the Waqf Bill. Members of the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) stormed into the well of the house, holding posters and demanding the withdrawal of the bill. They also chanted slogans like “Nitish Kumar, break your silence!” Due to the chaos, the Speaker suspended the session until 2 PM.
Opposition Accuses Government of Targeting Muslims
During the protests, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was present in the assembly, but he remained silent. Opposition leaders accused the government of “targeting Muslims” and demanded that the bill be scrapped. As tensions rose, marshals were deployed to guard the reporters’ table.
Speaker Urges for Discussion, But Opposition Refuses
Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav repeatedly asked the opposition to return to their seats and express their concerns during Zero Hour instead of disrupting the session. He reminded them that only two days of the session were left and urged them to cooperate. However, the opposition members refused to listen, forcing the Speaker to suspend proceedings until 2 PM.
No Assembly Session on March 28
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary proposed that the Bihar Assembly session on March 28 be canceled. The proposal was accepted, meaning the last day of the session will now be March 27 instead of March 28.
Protests Outside the Assembly
Before the session started, opposition leaders also staged protests outside the Bihar Assembly, holding banners and shouting slogans against the central government and CM Nitish Kumar. They called the Waqf Amendment Bill a “black law” and unconstitutional, demanding its withdrawal.
